On the 23rd October, 1968 the 1st Swalecliffe became the 6th Whitstable and built it's own Group HQ, which was opened on 27th Feburary, 1975.
The gorup grew to have it's own Venture Scout Unit in 1981. In 1985, a Beaver colony was formed and became the first Beaver Scout colony in the whole Canterbury District.
As popularity grew, there was soon need to form another Cub Pack. The Monday Cubs (later renamed 'Freestylers') was formed in 1986. A Monday Beaver Colony shortly followied in 1989, since when the 6th has grown to be the largest group in the District.
After the re-organisation in 2001, Venture Scouting ceased and was replaced by Explorer Scout and the Scout Network. The 6th formed it's own Explorer Unit in 2003. Although they are officially district based, the 'Nighthawks' remains associated with the Group.
The Group celebarated it's 50th Anniversary in 2004, events included a large celebration at Ross Wood Camp site with activities and a camp fire.
